Coleen's Big Thumb Adventure

My sad story: I cut my right thumb on a broken glass candle holder cleaning up from a party. I had to go to the emergency room. I severed an artery and a nerve and I had to have surgery to reattach the nerve a few days later. They put my hand and most of my arm in a cast for three weeks to immobilize my thumb. Moral of the story: casts are not fun. And Vicodin is not as fun as everyone says, if you really are in pain.

These are the stitches they pulled out of my thumb. Click here to see a video of my stitches being pulled out. (Can you hear me say, "I should have taken a Vicodin!"?)

Be warned: gross photo below!

OK, this is what you all really wanted to see. My "Frankenthumb," as Jesse kindly put it. A coworker said later that it looked like they sewed somebody else's thumb onto my hand. The support I received during recovery was amazing. And when I saw a friend whom I hadn't seen since before the fateful cuts, she could not stop laughing when I told her the story. "A cast on your whole arm? Just for a cut on your thumb? You actually had surgery on your thumb?" Yeah, we'll just let Rosetta be nameless for now.
